About Me
Steve Stewart is an attorney at The Spencer Law Firm whose practice focuses on complex business litigation, commercial disputes, and oil and gas law. For more than 40 years, he has represented businesses and individuals throughout Texas, advising clients in matters involving energy transactions, commercial litigation, real estate disputes, and business conflicts.
Throughout his career, Steve has represented national and local banks, real estate developers, energy companies, royalty owners, securities brokerage firms, and commercial and residential landlords and tenants. His experience spans a wide range of oil and gas matters, including lease access, joint operating agreements, operator and working interest disputes, royalty disputes, drilling contracts, purchase and sale agreements, farmout agreements, and environmental claims.
Recognized by both his peers and industry publications, Steve combines extensive trial experience with a deep understanding of the energy industry to help clients navigate complex legal challenges. He has also taught numerous continuing legal education courses on emerging issues in oil and gas and construction law, reflecting his longstanding commitment to the legal profession.

Representative Matters & Notable Results
Secured a Multimillion-Dollar Jury Verdict
Represented Seattle First National Bank against Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in a construction lawsuit involving the Kelly Field National Bank in San Antonio, Texas. The trial was the longest civil jury trial in Bexar County history and resulted in a multimillion-dollar jury verdict and judgment for Seattle First National Bank.
Obtained a Multimillion-Dollar Jury Verdict for Ventech Engineers, Inc.
Represented Ventech Engineers, Inc. against a Sudanese construction company in a lawsuit involving construction of an oil refinery. The case resulted in a multimillion-dollar jury verdict and judgment for Ventech.
Successfully Represented Aldrich, Eastman & Waltch
Represented Aldrich, Eastman & Waltch, Inc., developer of the Pavilion on Post Oak in all litigation stemming from the renovation of the shopping center
Obtained Summary Judgment for MDC/Wood, Inc.
Represented MDC/Wood, Inc., a Houston home developer, in a lawsuit brought by a large number of homeowners involving claimed damage resulting from an active fault in their subdivision. The case resulted in a summary judgment for MDC/Wood, Inc. It was appealed and affirmed.
Successfully Defended Southwestern Bell Telephone Company
Represented Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in defense of a wrongful death lawsuit involving multiple deaths. The case resulted in a jury verdict dramatically less than the pretrial settlement offer from plaintiffs.
